Day 16 - Pemberton to East Fremantle - 434km

Homeward bound to East Fremantle (Lesley's house).

Finished.

Day 15 - Pemberton

Had a leisurely stroll around ending the day at a restaurant where the family had local produce for dinner. It was called marron - like a small crayfish or large yabbie.

Day 14 - Peaceful Bay to Pemberton - 152km

Lesley booked accommodation in a renovated old picture show cinema. It was superb. Had a lovely counter meal at the pub. It was a pub that Lesley and us had visited before with Philip and Mary. On the way to Pemberton, Noel, Helen and Darcy had urged Jim to climb a mountain which he successfully did but he had to have a heated spa to ward off some of the aches and pains.

Day 13 - Quaalup to Peaceful Bay - 365km

Nice drive with lots of sightseeing on the way. Very cold when we arrived and no managers to greet us. Finally set up played children's card games by candlelight. Power went off. Helen was the only one with a woodburning heater; others froze.

Day 12 - Esperance to Quaalup - 353km

Weather a little cold but at this time of year it's to be expected. Quaalup is a bioshere area with lots of wildflowers, birds and animals. One particular bird was an emu called Edna who followed the children all the time. It was a place that you could have spent a lot more time exploring. Well done Helen for finding such a place.

Day 11 - Esperance - HAPPY BIRTHDAY DARCY

Finished our time here with a surprise 16th birthday party for Darcy. Lesley did a great job with this accommodation.

Day 10 - Esperance

Taking it a bit easy playing a lot of cards with the kids.

Day 9 - Fraser Range to Esperance - 309km

Lovely house overlooking the ocean. Magnificent sunset.

Day 8 - Fraser Range

Fraser Range is a farm that had accommodation as a side line. The owners are trying to breed cattle on this property for the future. Very, very cold.

Day 7 - Nullarbor to Fraser Range - 779km

Nullarbor to Fraser Range. Weather not too good. Have to be picked up and taken to Eyre Bird Sanctuary. This fell through and left us with no accommodation for 13 people. Helen came to the rescue and we ended up at Fraser Range for 2 days.

Day 6 - Ceduna to Nullarbor - 318km

Went to Fowler's Bay. Early explorers found it to be safe anchorage, very little water, no trees but great sand dunes. Jim climbed the tallest.
Went to Head of the Bite where we encountered many Southern White whales. It's one of the world's breeding sites for these whales. Continued onto the hotel/motel where we slept 6 in one room. Thrills.

Day 5 - Coffin Bay to Ceduna - 387km

Still on the road. Weather beautiful, night very cold. Morning tea at Elliston after viewing a travellers' inn built in 1880.. Called in to Talia Caves which was a great geological feature with excellent ocean views. A short stop at Streaky Bay. Finally Ceduna with cabin accommodation.

Day 4 - Coffin Bay

Still in Coffine Bay and still eating oysters. Had a great breakfast with Noel, Helen, Darcy, Marg, Andrew, James and Alex at the other house.

Day 3 - Port Germein to Coffin Bay - 451km

Left Port Germein for Coffin Bay, 451km. Better weather, no rain on the horizon. Quite a bit of road kill, mainly wallabies. Stopped at Whyalla. Iron ore is smelted here. The town had a reddish pink look because of the iron ore dust. Finally arrived at Coffin Bay - very tired but had great accommodation obtained by Marg. House shared by Lesley, Andrea, Jordyn, Nick, Maureen and Jim. Best fresh oysters ever.

19th June

Maureen walked the jetty, about 2/3km. Jim did it twice.

Pasta Bolognaise in the camp kitchen for dinner.

Walked the jetty, 1.5km, at dusk
